Because Curley was the best choice to married with in the farm. First reason was he is young and face well. Second reason is his father was the boss of the farm. Curley can be a rich person. Third. She married with Curley, she don’t need to work. It better to married with boss’s young and rich son than poor and old worker. 

Why does George kill Lennie?
Because George want to protect Lennie. Because If let Curley catch him, they may will afflict him and kill him. He don’t want Lennie’s have a bad end with his life. He told Lennie about their dream and let he think the image of the future. Maybe whenLennie dead, he don’t feel hurt or sad. His end of life was happy and hope. George know Lennie must will dead, so he try to use his way to end Lennie’s life. 

What does old dog repeat for?
The old dog was repeat for Lennie, Because Candy always take care with the Old dog. But the old dog didn’t help Candy nothings. All the worker around Candy think the dog must being kill. Same as Lennie and George, George always help Lennie get out of trouble and take care with him. But Lennie didn’t being helpful with George. At the end, everybody try to kill Lennie too. So, old dog was repeat for Lennie.

In early society, woman always don’t have right and can’t make any choice with their life. Woman just like a toy, people don’t treat them like man. They don’t have any right to speak out and not power to have any opoin.

 

      When I read The Mice and Men, Curley’s wife may be not my favorite character. But thought Curley’s wife, I can understand how sad she does and how were woman life in early 1922. Could you understand the feeling being along? Nobody want to talk to her and just leave her along. Candy also think she was a tart woman. She didn’t doing any things bad to them, did she?

 

    Curley’s wife was the only woman in the farm and she has no friends! People don’t like to talk to her cause by her mean husband. Maybe she want to have some friends, so she talk to the worker in the farm. But Candy think she is lose woman and told George don’t toward her. Even he think Curley’s wife was not a good woman, But do you like people talking behind you? If I am Curley’s wife, I don’t care does a old man like me. There is no reason to talk about some people is best without considering the individual's point of view.

 

 

When John Steick try to use some word to describe her. He written:” She had full, rouged lips and wide-spaced eyes, heavily made up. Her fingernail were red.”  Does any question with red fingernail? Thought this quote, John want to show she was a lose woman. Why woman can’t have right to choose their wearing style? There was not reason say dress perty was bad! If she wear sexy like today’s young girl. Does they  will think she was a really really lose woman?

 

 

    Everybody have their freedom and right with out woman in early society. If  Curley’s wife are born at today. Her life may be change. Society was change! We have right! Woman have right!

school uniform (Do you like it?)

 

   

  “Linfeng, why did you wear jeans? Does your teacher give you a detention?” My answer is no! Our school uniform policy is special and fashionable. We can wear jeans everyday and whatever colorful cloths. But, the shirt has to have a collar. You can choose many different kinds of shirts to make your own uniform and your own style. Constitution High School gives the student enough freedom for school and also respect them. In other High schools, you will see the same color shirt and pants. They wear same Uniform with different faces only! They can’t design their style or show their individuality.

 

      Every policy is not really complete same as the law. You still can find out some holes in some bill. Even most student think the uniform policy is perfect, but still have some student didn’t like it or didn’t agree with it.

 

      “ I really don’t want to wear long pant at summer time. it’s hot!” A 10^th grade student of Constitution High school say it. Through some student in CHS, most students think the rule of Uniform need to change in summer time. Because one rule of uniform says that we can’t wear any pant or skirt pass than knee. Do you want to wear a long pant during a 90 degree day?  Why did we have to wear collar? Some student think we can wear whatever we want without collar. Because even we wear collar it’s doesn’t effect nothing! It’s don’t change a lot. So, why did we can’t wear the pretty clothes without the collar? Student think the policy made our school uniform fashionable. But, some teacher would like to change the uniform to be same with other school. “We can just wear white shirt and dark blue pant same as other High school student did.” A English teacher form 10^th grade of CHS say that.

 

 

He think if our Uniform policy same with other school, the parent can help us to buy uniform more cheaper. And some girls don’t need to spend those time to think about how to design a uniform more fashion.

 

 

        “ I think it is good, very easy to follow and we can wear jeans.” My friend Hong said that. Some student think this policy of uniform is OK. Because we don’t have a lot rule of it. If you walk in CHS, you will see many different dress of student. Everybody design their own Uniform. It’s cool!

 

      Constitution High School students have many advises of Uniform. Some student also think we can have Korean style uniform, but teacher think that too sexy for school and it is Lolita. Some teachers think we can change the uniform like other school did. Most people think that summer time we could wear the short pant and skirt with out pass the knee. Students can give the advises to school office or talk to the teacher. So, we can have a best Uniform of Philadelphia!

Who can tell are woman affect the civil war or the civil war affect them? Civil war was the greatest war in America history and it took almost 4 years long-it was a war of freedom! The American Civil War was the deadliest war in American history, causing 620000 soldier deaths. How was woman doing in the war? They being self-sacrificing nurses, romantic spies, or brave ladies maintaining the home front in the absence of their man, also start to change their life and show their ability. During the war, you would saw those woman soldier and spies. But, woman soldier was no secret during or after civil war. Sometime what they doing may decide many other man soldier’s life or future. More than 3000 woman work as nurse the union army and they dividing their time to medical work too. Woman save many soldier’s life during civil war by doing this. With thousand of soldier fighting in war, woman would take over the businesses. They would make clothes at home or worked in offices copying documents.  Man were not only one to fight this war, woman bore arms and charged into battle, too.


          Women soldiers of the Civil War will get bogus names, they change their acting and hair style as same as other man, and hid the fact of they were woman. But they won’t change document for a soldier with “Sextual incompatibility.” Because they passed as men, it is impossible to know how many women soldiers in the Civil War. At a rough estimates, place as many as 250 women in the ranks of the Confederate army. In 1888, Mary Livermore of the U.S. Sanitary Commission remembered that:

      “  Some one has stated the number of women soldiers known to the service as little less than four hundred. I cannot vouch for the correctness of this estimate, but I am convinced that a larger number of women disguised themselves and enlisted in the service, for one cause or other, than was dreamed of. Entrenched in secrecy, and regarded as men, they were sometimes revealed as women, by accident or casualty. Some startling histories of these military women were current in the gossip of army life. ”

 

Because most people don’t agree with woman doing man’s job, so woman make up their spy networks. In fact, woman made very good spies. For some reason just because people won’t be suspected woman can be spy as man. So they have more chance to get information form enemy. Rose Greenhow was one of most famous and renowned spies. At the start of Civil War, she began supplying the information from confederate friends to gleaned from her pro-Union contact. One of important information that she passed along the timetable for Union Army’s movements towards Manassas, Her report helped the Confederate to win the First Battle of Bull Run in 1861. At July 16 in1863, She send a latter to Jefferson Davis describe her recent meeting with Robert E. Lee. Here is a short part of the letter that she describe what she know:

On nearing the city the booming of the heavy guns was distinctly heard, and I feared that the attack had been going on with but little intermission for several days. I omitted to mention also that the cars coming were laden with cotton and in many instances carriages & horses also being sent to the interior, showing the sense of insecurity which very generally prevailes.”
      Woman not just being soldier fight with man, they also work as nurses providing medical care to wounded and sick soldier. Two thousand woman , South and North , work as volunteer nurses in hospitals during War.  Because almost fight are took place at southern, many woman made their home as medical shelters. In the Civil War, Sally Tompkins set up a hospital in her house and caring confederate soldier in. She treated more than 1300 soldier who get sick or hurt cause by War, only 73 soldier death. That the reason why Jeffson Davis let her become an officer in the confederate Amy. Some people believe that presence of woman nurses would prove delicate of battlefield conditions.Clara Barton was one of famous nurses during Civil war. my season of my life

      "Hey! Weng, I need your help! You know what? Today my friends get beating from ABC girls, and next Monday, we will have a fight again. Do you want to come with us?"  "Yes, sure." I called all the friends I get and have the same conversation like that again and again. The day is coming very soon, you can't tell how spectacular view it is! Almost 40 people walk together with us and we stand at there waiting for those people who beat my friend. A very commodious place because of us, it look very hustle. Soon, they are coming and have a noisy quarrel and fight. Our side have 10 girls, but they only have 5 people. I fight with the fattest girl of them and I get a lot of scratch mark on my face from her finger nail. My friend's long finger nail breaks off and blood comes out. The most terrible scene is when someone use the sharp instrument to beat a girl's head and the blood are permeating her face! At that time, don't matter what we doing right now, all the people are stop their acting and looking for the girl who get beating on head. I don't remember how we left there, but I can't forget her face and her eyes with injured. I try to get the answer from myself why we use violence to settle up a dispute. Does it work? I think the answer is no. It is a milestone of my life and it affects my thinking a lot. I change my way of thinking, acting and my disposition.

      After that happen, if my friends have quarrel with other people, I will ask them "Even you fight them and beat them, Are you think the problem will solve? or you will be so happy?" We are not a kid, don't just play around and get fight again and again. I learn to be lenient in judging others. In china, we have an old saying: Men are not saints, how can they by free from faults? So, why we just use a wrong way to treat them? When my mother raise her voice to me, before I will raise the voice to her too. But, right now I will say come down your voice and tell me what mistake I make? Own up when I have made a mistake. When we grow up, we need to know how to solve a lot problem or argument in our life.

      My Dad told me that when you grow up, you must answer for your actions. Before I would like to skip class and go out with my friend. But right now I know I need to start to plan my further and I can't just always play.

         “I hope you can grow up, don’t just always go out with you friends. Can you study more harder?”  That come out from my mom’s mouth when she crying. Before we get a rich life in china, but my parent still want to move to American because of us. They want our can get a higher education and a new life. In china, even you are graduate form collage. You still difficult to found a job. My parent came to here and work hard, but I and my brother just always play computer or go out. My aunt to laugh at her say :“ you don’t how to teach your kids to learning something? I see them always play.” When her came back home, I see her eyes turn red and tears on the face. At that time, I really dislike myself. What mistake I do? Never thinking about how my mom’s feeling! When she told me to study, I always raise my voice curse her and don’t want to listen to her. Her eyes have a kind of sad that I never understand. Try and Try, I start to change myself because of my mom, my family, my life. After school, I will go to my tutor’s there study English and finish my homework. Every night when I come back home I will clean the house and helping my do some housework. My English teacher Mr. Romero told me and my classmate to read a really good story, I discover that the girl names Lizabeth growing up have a same reason with me. The story call < Maygold >, this title may just a symbol of the conviction. She grow up because his father are crying and saying that he don’t have job and he can’t give the kids a good life. When she hear that and she know that she need to grow up and she is already are a human now! A human can understand the parent’s thinking just like I do right now.

       When I just a kids and I hope can grow up soon. The reason why is I want to watch TV until 12PM like my mon always do and I don’t need to go to school. But when I start to growing up, get a lot problem in my life, answer my action of myself, change the way of my thinking. I feel very tried and miss my childhood. We don’t need to think about the further, don’t need to think about the money, don’t need to think about how to solve family and friend’s problem. But I choose to grow up to help my family also help my further too. It is time to grow up and I can’t just lie for myself to be a child and doing nothing. I am ready to take the collage form my further! Because I am grow up now! Hurry up! You can do it too.

  In China we have an old saying: A dutiful son is made by a stick to 
hit him. I still remember after my mom went to the school parents 
meeting. My sister and I would always hide some place in our house, or 
go to sleep early, because we knew that if we waited for her to come home, 
she will use the coat hanger to beat us and we will be covered with 
scars, big and small. Sometimes even when I am already asleep, she will still yell 
at me to wake up, to ask me why I didn’t do some homework, and she will start to 
beat me. Sometimes she will take my textbooks from my school bag and 
put it into the trashcan. I just cry and cry, again and again. 
What else can I do? In my heart, I feel that my mom 
cares more about my grades than she does about me. When I read the poem "The 
Whipping" written by Robert Hayden, it evoked memories of my childhood. Every word of the poem attacked my heart.  A kind of sadness or terror 
came over my heart and spread through my body. Every 
word in this poem is very clear and easy for me to understand. 
 
     The reason I was interested in this poem is because I enjoyed the 
vocabulary. "The Whipping” uses easy words to describe things, and 
the meaning is very clear. In the opening of the poem "The old woman across the 
way is whipping the boy again…” It may have some words that I will find in the SAT test, and I can get help from the dictionary. This poem taught me some new words. 
 
      I feel very sad when I read this "Words could bring, the 
face that I no longer know or loved…” After the parents beat the child, 
they may relax, and not be angry any more, but how about the child?  Parents 
not only hurt their body, they also hurt the child's feelings!  The child may not 
smile anymore, or be happy everyday. Some of them may hate their 
parents. After they grow up, they may leave the parents alone, and never 
come back! How does the child think of the parents? The parents will leave a gloom 
over the child’s life for all time. 
 
    "The Whipping" really shows the childhood of some children and how 
family violence has been so commonplace in society. I still remember 
my mother telling me that one time after she beat me. I kept crying and later 
fell asleep, and she sat next to my bed. When she saw the scars on my body, she began to cry. I know the parents love their children, but why did they choose 
this way to solve those problems? This is a problem in many families. The parents always think that if the kids do anything bad, they need to get a beating so they won't do it again. Yes – the kids may not do it again, to avoid getting a beating, but how does a child then think of the parent? Perhaps the parents are right, but when you beat the children, it is wrong. The children may not do it again because they are afraid of getting a beating, even when they think what they did was not wrong! 
 
    Would you like to have a happy family and nice parents, or would you like 
your family to always have violence? This poem has the same problem too. 
Why don't the parents think about sitting down with the kids and talk to them about behavior and rules? A family is made up of all members, so we should all have a say in what goes on. Try to talk to the children and become 
involved in their life and their thinking! Be their friends, not just a demanding parent with no sympathy! "The Whipping" is an excellent poem. There are some words I think will be on the SAT test, and can help me learn some new words. Some parts of the poem make me feel sad and about to cry. It shows how many families have problems in our society.

Reflection on my NHD Process

The NHD are due last month. I think I and  hong do the Exhibit board is a lot better than last year.

I learn a lot information about our topic Shing-shen chern. We try to get more information about him, so we research on the internet and book. because our English is not good. we read the information again and again. after we understand it. we try to use our own word to rewrite it. it is hard for us to rewrite those information because is higher English level. we can not really understand the English information , so we need to research chinese website to read the chinese first and read the english information too. thought I know this person. I really like what he discover is a really fun theory. You can use that to go thought the time.

I think the most problem we get is the language and the theory which he discover. His theory is the higher geometry level. It use a lot SAT word to describe it, if you can read it. but you can not understand the theory. it really hard. Even I ask some teacher but they don't know it too. we cannot use our own word to explain the  theory. so, we put the equation on our board.It hard for us. but we try it. I feel very happy that we can finish this project.
